Thomas Schütte

Born 1954 in Oldenburg, Germany

Lives and works in Düsseldorf


German contemporary artist working across a wide range of media: installations, sculptures, architectural models, prints, drawings and watercolours. Best-known for his sculptures, particularly his figures, which range from miniatures to monumental works.

In April 2016 Thomas Schütte opened his Sculpture Hall in Neuss, Germany, a new-built museum presenting exhibitions of contemporary sculpture as well as serving as a depot for his own works.

Thomas Schütte has been the subject of numerous museum exhibitions including Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam (2004); Haus der Kunst, Munich (2009); Museo Reina Sofia, Madrid (2010); Serpentine Gallery, London (2012); Fondation Beyeler, Basel (2013); Monnaie de Paris (2019); Kunsthaus Bregenz, Austria (2019); and Georg Kolbe Museum Berlin (2021).
